World Building

I was hoping to be much farther along with my fantasy book "Betony - And the Line of Succession" by this time. But I found that I still had some work to do on "World Building." That's a lengthy process in fantasy writing where you have to invent a whole fictional world. You have to imagine things like history, language, and even evolution.

I thought I pretty much had it all worked out, but during what I thought would be the final rewrite a few questions came up. I had been working on a prequel that I was hoping to send out for free into the world, perhaps after "Betony" was complete. Then I realized I needed to finish the prequel first because I believe in letting the characters tell the story as much as possible.

The good news is that I will be able to get it out before "Betony" is completed. The bad news is "Betony" won't get out as quickly as I'd hoped and it might end up with a few changes I hadn't counted on. But since I've always found that the Muse knows better than I do, I'm confident the end result will be better for it.

I was sooo hoping I was closer to finishing. But I guess that's Show Biz, as they say. Oh, well. There are worse things than sitting on a screened-in porch and watching a story spinning itself.

I hope everyone enjoys their summer! Tomorrow is the solstice, I believe.

    1. It's going much slower than I'd like because of summer guests. But what can you do? Summer time is also barbeque time!

    1. Sometimes I wish I specialized in smaller works, but that's no me. As a kid I built cities and towns with blocks instead of just buildings. I guess I'm still doing that. LOL
